Teachers and Principal May be Charged in Student Fight and Cover Up
In Pinellas Park, Florida, at Oak Park/CEP School a group of 14- and 15-year-old students started a commotion in a classroom. One of the students was harrassing teacher, Roslyn Holloway, 47. After leaving the classroom, teacher Bryant Alexander, 35, entered the classroom to restore order.
Holloway then returned with a two older students, one 16 and the other 17. Alexander let them shout profanities and bereate the younger students while he sat in the back of the room. Holloway stood at the door but did not enter.
The 16-year-old student physically attacked several of the younger students - and the teachers stood by and let it happen. Several students were pushed from their seats onto the floor and one student was slapped.
The teachers let this go on for 30 minutes until school was dismissed for the day.
Darrell Delaney, the father of one of the victims, said that Holloway told the older boys to beat up his son and some other students as a way to discipline them. Delaney said that Alexander laughed during the assault.
The next day a parent called deputies to complain about the student-on-student violence. After investigation, deputies referred Alexander and Holloway to the State Attorney’s Office on child abuse charges and went to arrest the 16-year-old student.
However, school principal Joseph Milana met with a school resource officer (SRO) who told him about the child abuse charges and the impending arrest. (An SRO is a local police officer who has an office at a school, works with staff, and helps out with keeping discipline and safety in the school).
After the meeting, Milana returned to school and asked a staff member to drive the 16-year-old suspect home, which temporarily prevented his arrest. Deputies have accused Principal Milana of impeding their investigation and his actions will be referred to the State Attorney’s Office for consideration of an obstruction charge.
Deputies did finally arrest the 16-year-old student. He now faces five counts of misdemeanor battery and one count of misdemeanor assault.
CEP has suspended all three faculty members while the case is being investigated.
What were these teachers thinking? But the action of the principal was even worse! Was he trying to protect the kid from being arrested? Or just trying to cover up what happened?
This is a case of letting the criminals run the jail! All three need to be fired and have their teaching/administrative licenses taken away as soon as possible.
