Teacher’s Aide Exposes Himself to Students, Kindergarten Teacher Steals from School
Kind of a quiet week at Teacher Smackdown. Maybe people are trying to be extra good for Santa…well everyone but these two.
John Erickson
In Alta, California, John Erickson, a retired teacher who works as a teacher’s aide for an hour a day, was arrested on suspicion of committing lewd acts with a child. He worked at Alta Dutch Flat School and exposed himself to one child.
Placer County sheriffs released Erickson bail. Erickson no longer works at the school and parents were notified of the arrest.
Erickson also owns a Christmas tree farm located near the school.
I would like to give this guy a little benefit of the doubt. If he is a retired teacher with a clean background, I wonder if being a senior citizen has anything to do with his behavior. Mild dementia in older people can make them do some wacky shit, like going out the front door in their underwear.
Still, behavior like this around children is totally unacceptable and I hope Erickson gets the help he need - as does the student to whom he exposed himself.
Katie Buettner
In Wisconsin, St. Paul Lutheran School kindergarten teacher Katie Buettner, 23, is charged with two counts of burglary and four counts of theft. Police believe that she used security keys to enter the school and steal.
To combat a string of school thefts, school official installed video cameras. Buettner was caught on tape stealing items like televisions and clocks. Caught red handed in the act - oh boy!
She also stole $4,495 worth of SCRIP cards. These are certificates that donate a portion of the profit from a given purchase back to St. Paul Lutheran.
Buettner has resigned from her teaching duties and awaits a plea hearing at the end of the month.
