Teacher Scott Libert Hovey Charged with Internet Sex Solicitation of a Minor

by Anne-Marie Nichols

scott_hovey.jpgBetween NBC Dateline’s To Catch a Predator show and what police are doing all over the U.S. to crack down on internet sex predators, I’m surprised that anyone is trying to hookup with kids online. Still that didn’t stop Scott Libert Hovey, 26, a mathematics teacher at Southeast Raleigh High School in North Carolina.

Hovey was charged with internet solicitation - trying to arrange a meeting with a teenage girl for sex. Hovey has been suspended with pay from his job pending the outcome of his case.

Hovey was caught by undercover detectives as part of an ongoing Internet solicitation investigation. Police are asking that anyone with information related to the case, including previous encounters with minors over the Internet, to call (336) 373-2255 or CrimeStoppers at (336) 373-1000.

Instead, Teacher Smackdown identifies the molesters, thieves, and lecherous adults masquerading as teachers in our society. It also gives parents resources and information on protecting our kids and identifying these monsters.
