Teacher Richard Foster Accused of Child Sexual Assault Attempts Suicide

by Anne-Marie Nichols

richard_foster.jpgIn Bradford, Vermont, Bradford Elementary teacher, Richard Foster, 51, was arrested on five felony counts relating to sexual abuse of a child:

  • multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault on a minor
  • lewd and lascivious conduct with a minor
  • possession of child pornography
  • use of a child in a sexual performance
  • luring a child for sexual exploitation
  • Police found out that Foster had been sexually abusing a child under the age of 16 after the victim, who used to live in Vermont, reported multiple incidents of sexual abuse to Coral Springs, Florida police. Florida authorities then contacted Vermont State Police, who investigated the claims, received a search warrant, and arrested Foster.

Foster owns a media production company called Media Magic of Vermont. Police seized a large amount of media - I’m guessing video and possibly photographs and digital files - from Foster’s home and some from the school. One of the allegations is that Foster made child pornography videos. Ewwwwww.

Police are working with one victim, but anticipate that others may turn up. State police urge anyone with information to call Detective Sgt. Tim Page at the Bradford barracks at 222-4680.

Foster was jailed and is out after posting $30,000 bail. The sixth grade teacher is now hospitalized after a suicide attempt.

Kudos to the young person and their parents who reported Foster to the police. It would have been easy to forget about the whole incident since s/he no longer lived in Vermont. Instead, they did the right - but difficult - thing and turned this perv into the police. That takes guts!
