Teacher Melissa Melugin Gets Dooced Over Inappropriate Blog Content
In Kentucky, Melissa Melugin, 31, a teacher at Bellevue High School, resigned her job after being accused that she had an inappropriate relationship with one of her students and shared her personal blog with her students.
Police say they did not find evidence that she was having a sexual relationship with a student. (And if they did, since the student was 18, he is legally an adult and any sexual relationship would not have been criminal.)
However, the school district maintains that she crossed the line when she gave students the password to her personal blog. The blog discussed sex, drug and alcohol use, suicide, self mutilation and mental illness. Melugin also suggested on the site that she was infatuated with a student and hinted that she might have had inappropriate contact with an 18-year-old student - thus the investigation and suspension by the school district.
The school district says that allowing students to view and exchange comments on her blogs was inappropriate, but not illegal.
Teachers (and other professionals) are very vulnerable to being dooced for their blogs. Can they post about their love lives or mental health issues? What happens if students and parents find the blog? Yet purposefully giving the kids her password to share adult themes and personal information with her students was going too far and showed very poor judgment. Teachers need to set up boundaries between themselves and the children they teach.

Yeah that was a dumb move….she should have been more careful. What the hell was she thinking? High school teachers aren’t free to treat their students like adults……and with everyone on hightened alert these days….I’d be paranoid as hell if I were a teacher.
