Teacher Mark Haburn Faces Sex Abuse Charges

by Anne-Marie Nichols

mark_haburn.jpgIn Des Moines, Iowa, sixth-grade teacher Mark Haburn was arrested and charged with third-degree sexual abuse. His victim was a 14-year-old girl. The abuse did not take place at Nevada Middle School where Haburn teaches.

Back in 2005, Haburn was charged with assaulting an underage female student. A jury found him not guilty, and Haburn did not lose his job. However, the student’s family filed a civil lawsuit against Haburn and the school district.

Police said they first heard of about the allegations against Haburn in July and were conducting an investigation before they arrested him.

Sounds like this guy is showing a pattern of assault against young females. I hope the district concludes this as well and fires the bastard.

I have known mark for over 20 years. He is a decent person and I have no reason to not trust him. We have a thing in this great country called “due process” where a man is INNOCENT until proven guilty. With all the mass paranoia thesed days surrounding child abuse in our country it’s easy to get caught up in the anger and outrage but I happen to know this man I can say he more than deserves the benefit of the doubt. I have children as well so please do not think I take this lightly. My prayers are with Mark and his family.

I also think that Mr.Haburn is innocent. I was one of his students the year before he was arrested. We used to joke around, tease one another. All of my friends liked him too. We had all heard about the incendent before, with the other teenager. Nevada is a SMALL town, word gets around fast.He never did anything to us, all the girls were his friend but that doesn’t mean he would hurt us. We all would come in during resuess and talk to Mr.Haburn other then going outside and we would visit our other teachers too. Through-out the whole year he never let him get in “his bubble” about 2 feet away from him.I never did believe anything about the assalt, and I still don’t. Mr.Haburn was a good friend and a great teacher!

i had Mr Haburn as a teacher last year and he is not a bad teacher at all. He was the best!HE had his bubble and if you dint here the first time but he was inoccent and if people want to label him all they want but everyone in Nevada knows he is innocent and that he had his bubble and no one can be close to him! that is how much he cared! He loveddddd……………… teaching and that got takin away from him all because of a rumor!I will never forget that MR HABURN WAS THE ONE WHO TAUGHT ME HOW TO HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!
