Teacher Mamie Hubbard-Washington Accused of Abusing Special Needs Children
In Las Vegas, special education teacher Mamie Hubbard-Washington,64, is accused of child abuse against her students. She beat her seven- and eight-year-old special education students at Doris Reed Elementary with a yard stick and grabbed them so hard that she left bruises. This wonderful example of a teacher is charged with five felony child abuse counts.
Hubbard-Washington was recently in court for her preliminary hearing. Her assistants, the school’s principal, and the children’s parents took the stand. They testified that the helpless special needs children - some of whom can not talk - were abused.
During testimony, some parents accused Hubbard-Washington of yelling at their children. They testified that she forced the kids to eat and she made other kids spit up their food.
Other parents said their children kept coming home with bruises and scratches. Most of them thought the injuries were from playing and were not abuse. However, one of the parents who is a physicians assistant noticed signs of child abuse. She brought her daughter to a doctor to be examined.
According to parent Joan Ferguson, her daughter Joanne had bruises on both her arms. She said that the bruises on the child’s inner arms looked like a thumb print and fingers. Can you imagine how hard you would have to grab a second-grader to leave bruises like that?
The damning testimony came from Hubbard-Washington’s classroom assistants. Both women described several incidents where they witnessed the abuse first-hand. They say her hit the students with a yard stick, a comb or brush. Sometimes she used her fist and palm. They also say they saw her force-feeding, pinching, scratching and insulting the children. One of the teaching assistants testified that one incident of abuse left a child with a chipped tooth and bloody lip.
God, this woman’s a monster! Why was she allowed to teach?
Hubbard-Washington’s attorney has argued that the children were prone to getting bruises and scratches just because they are autistic and special needs kids. He says that the steacher was not responsible for the cuts and bruises.
The preliminary hearing will resume in three weeks when the defense will call its only witness, the assistant principal at the school. Let me guess? He is trying to cover his ass by testifying for Hubbard-Washington? Stay tuned.
