Teacher John Holler Arrested for Having Sex with 17-Year-Old Student
In Santee, California, English teacher John C. Holler, 41, was arrested for having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old female student at West Hills High School where he worked for 15 years.
The relationship started in August and lasted until his arrest. Deputies searched Holler’s car and seized clothing and other items to search for DNA evidence. The sexual acts allegedly occurred in and around Santee after school and in Holler’s Ford Focus. None happened on campus.
The 17-year-old’s friend blew the whistle on Holler and her friend when s/he reported them to the school administrators. The school called the sheriff’s department and the student immediately afterwards. The female student confirmed that sexual acts had occurred.
Holler has been placed on administrative leave. He is also in jail in lieu of $175,000 bail, and will be arraigned next week.
According to a Grossmont Union High School district website (that’s my old school district, folks!) Holler was selected by West Hills High School students to receive the annual Golden Apple award in May 2007. More often than not, the teachers who have “affairs” with their teenage students are very popular.
I think what happens is that the popularity goes to their head and they forget where the boundaries are. Just because someone thinks you are cool, does not mean that they are coming on to you. These are teenagers for gosh sakes, not adults. A little crush on a teacher is one thing. A teacher taking advantage of it is another - a BIG NO NO.
