Teacher Holly Anna Hatcher Charged with Statutory Rape of Male Student

by Anne-Marie Nichols

holly_anna_hatcher.jpgIn Tennessee, Gallatin High School teacher Holly Hatcher, 25, was charged with statutory rape by an authority figure. She is accused of having sex with a 17-year-old male student at her home in Nashville.

Hatcher admitted having sex with the teenager on six occasions in the last two months. Police said the teenager drove to her home for the sexual encounters. One time, Hatcher and the student went to the Nashville Zoo, and returned to Hatcher’s home for some “hot monkey love.” (Sorry, I couldn’t help the zoo reference.)

Another time the student told his parents that he was at work, but he was with Hatcher. Another time the boy told police he and Hatcher carved pumpkins and then they had sex.

Nashville police started the investigation after getting information from the Gallatin Police Department. A school spokesperson confirmed that Hatcher is under investigation. However, she hasn’t been placed on administrative leave…yet. Also, she was not arrested at the school.

The 25-year-old teacher has been released on a $6,000 bond. (One report says it’s a $15,000 bond. Either way, she’s out.)

This makes you wonder if they need to include a “Don’t Sleep with Your Students” class at teacher college or where ever these young teachers are getting their degrees and credentials. Just look at Band Director Jessica Ashley Kahal Arrested for Having Sex with 17-Year-Old Student. That teacher was 22-years-old.

Some parents think these teacher abuse cases are epidemic. According to the Tennessee’s school board attorney, his active caseload on teacher misconduct has doubled since 2005. Each year he used to have 50 cases or less. Now his average case load is between 90 and 100. He attributes the rise to better reporting practices and training for educators on what constitutes misconduct and when to report it.

Either way, I’m just glad these teachers are getting a smackdown for their bad behavior.
