Teacher Erin McLean Missing with Her Two Children
JUST IN: 12:45 MT
Nashville attorney Gary Blackburn told The Associated Press that he’s been in touch with Erin McLean. She’s in another state with friends and has enrolled her eight- and 11-year-old sons in school.
UPDATE: Erin McLean, the Knoxville, Tennessee high school teacher who was having an affair with one of her students, has gone missing with her two children. She’s been out of contact with her family since she left her parents’ home in Nashville on Saturday.
McLean’s husband, Eric McLean, is charged with killing Sean Powell, the teenager Erin was having an affair with. However, Erin McLean isn’t charged with any crimes, and has legal custody of her children even though she tried to commit suicide with her children in the house.
Erin’s attorney says she’s emotionally distraught - probably because she was recently fired from Pioneer Christian Academy in Nashville, where she was teaching high school English. She used her maiden name of Myers and misrepresented her teaching history to get the job. (So much for running a background check on someone’s Social Security number.)
The headmaster said that Erin McLean called one of her students 15 to 20 times, and the student’s parents were concerned about inappropriate contact. According to another report, Erin was trying to seduce a 17-year-old boy in her class. Here we go again!
After losing her teaching post, Erin McLean left her boys with her mother and checked herself into a mental-health facility. Last Saturday, she left that facility, and took her sons while her mother was napping.
Her attorney doesn’t believe she’d harm to her kids, even though she’s mentally unstable and her kids are probably freaked out. He thinks Erin is driving to California to meet with a man she met on the Internet.
So why not leave the kids at her mom’s house and just take off? Sounds suspicious to me, as in one of those murder-suicides where the mom kills her kids then herself. Let’s pray that her kids are o.k. and someone hears from her soon.
I don’t see an active Amber Alert for the boys either. I think it may be time to issue one.
