Teacher Donald Carpenter Arrested for Having Sex with Female Student
In Houston, Texas, Smiley High School teacher and coach Donald Carpenter, 45, is charged with improper relationship with a minor student, which is a felony. Police arrested him after he was accused of having sex with one of his female special ed students.
His 17-year-old victim told police she met Carpenter when she was assigned to his special education class where she was taking courses for the TAKS test. She told investigators that she was alone with Carpenter and one other student most of the time even though other students were assigned to the class.
Carpenter would send the other student out of class on an errand just to be alone with her. The victim told police that she had sex with him after he had locked the class room door. She told investigators that the sex hurt her badly but she didn’t say anything to him. Howeer, she refused his other sexual demands. Later, she went to a medical clinic then told her foster mother what happened.
Carpenter denied having a sexual relationship with his student. He also agreed to take a polygraph test, but later changed his mind.
It is unclear if school officials have placed Carpenter on leave. However, they have issued a statement that they are conducting and investigation.
Carpenter is out of jail on $10,000 bond. Police ask that if your children attend Smiley High School, you need to talk to them. If you have any information for police, you’re asked to call HPD’s sex crimes unit at 713-308-1180.
Sounds to me like Carpenter tried to take advantage of a young, sexually inexperienced girl who was “at risk” since she was in special ed and a foster kid. I’m glad to hear that she was brave enough to have herself checked out at a clinic and to tell her foster mom. Because of her bravery, Carpenter has been charged and will probably get jail time for rape.
