Teacher and Coach Christopher Thomas Newman Charged with Sex Abuse of a Minor
In Edgewater, Maryland, Christopher Thomas Newman, 31, a South River High School teacher and assistant football coach was charged with two counts of sex abuse of a minor and two counts of fourth-degree sex offense. He had fondled a female student at school, put his hand down her pants, given her gifts, and sent her explicit emails.
Police learned of the relationship from school administrators, who learned of it from the girl’s friend. The victim denied the abuse at first, but later told her grandma about it.
Newman, who is married with two kids, used the name Tyler Durden (a character in the movie Fight Club) to share his sex fantasies with his 16-year-old victim via email. He told her, “I think I crossed the line, but I like it.” He also gave her gift cards to Starbucks and Blockbuster. Is this grooming behavior or what?
Even more shocking is that Newman’s dad, Thomas A. Newman, who also taught and coached fooball, was acquitted of similar charges back in 1994. Like father, like son. Ewwwwww.
Ready for more? In the same school district, two school employees were arrested for having sexual relationships with their students. The first, a high school band director will be serving 18 months in jail for having sex at school and in a park with a female student. The year before that, a high school basketball coach and student advocate, got two months in jail for having a yearlong sexual relationship with a student.
What the fuck is going on in Anne Arundel County, Maryland? According to school officials, the district conducts thorough background checks to screen applicants. But if the teachers haven’t been caught or the abuse reported, there’s no way for a school district to know if the teacher is a potential predator. The district also provides new teachers with training on what is and is not an appropriate relationship to have with their students.
There’s something odd going on. If I was a teacher in that district, I sure wouldn’t be drinking the water. And if I had a child there, I’d certainly be talking to them alot about good touch/bad touch, and it’s not o.k. to have sexual relations with an adult teacher.
