Substitute Teacher Jason Joel Pearce Convicted on Indency with Child

jason_joel_pearce.jpgIn Plano Texas, former substitute teacher, Jason Joel Pearce, 33, was accused of groping and taking pictures of a topless 15-year-old Williams High School student. He was acquitted of sexually assaulting the girl, but convicted indecency and sexual performance of a child.

Sexual performance of a child is punishable by two to 10 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. Indecency with a child is a second- or third-degree felony, with a second-degree felonies punishable by two to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

Pearce pleaded not guilty, but testified that he romantically pursued the girl, showed students porn, and took pictures of the girl in a classroom when she was topless.

However, he said he never touched the 15-year-old. Pearce also said that he didn’t realize that his actions weren’t inappropriate. He was just trying to be a cool teacher. Oh please!

Pearce’s accuser said that after he took the topless pictures, he touched her breasts and then stuck his hand down her pants. Sounds like assault to me.

A clinical psychologist and a family friend testified that Pearce is a developmentally challenged, emotionally stunted person who suffers from Asperger’s syndrome. They felt that Pearce saw his students as peers and wanted to be cool with them. Giving them flavored lubricants and showing them porn is cool? Geez.

Plus, if he was this fucked up, how did he ever get the job in the first place? And no matter what his excuse is, he should know that it’s wrong to take nude photos of young girls and grope them. Duh.

Here’s the kicker. Before Pearce was a substitute for the Plano school district, he substituted in the Richardson school district. He was banned at that district for “communicating inappropriately” with high school students. His arrest certainly raises questions about how substitute teachers banned by a district can continue working for schools in other districts.

We need to tell our legislators that this has got to stop!
