School Bus Driver Christopher Michael Donofrio Charged with Sexually Abusing 14-Year-Old Girl
School bus driver Christopher Michael Donofrio, 26, was charged with luring a minor for sexual exploitation and solicitation of molestation of a child - both felonies. He is also charged with a misdemeanor of contributing to the delinquency of a child.
Donofrio works for the Higley Unified School District in Phoenix, Arizona. He was arrested after staff at Williams Field High School learned that he sexually abused a 14-year-old girl - one of the kids he met via his job as a bus driver.
Donofrio communicated with the girl via the Internet for two months. Then he arranged to meet her at a community pool where the abuse took place.
Police believe that Donofrio was trying to communicate with other female high school students through MySpace. However, they do not think there are any other victims.
It is nice to see that the local district attorney is pissed off. County Attorney Andrew Thomas said via a press release that anyone (like a teacher or school bus driver) who abuses a position of trust to prey upon children deserves harsh punishment. His office plans to seek substantial prison time.
According to the press release, the sentence for luring a minor charge ranges from five to 15 years, the sentence for the solicitation charge ranges from probation up to three years, and the misdemeanor sentence ranges from probation to six months in jail. I do not know if a judge could add those all up by it looks like Donofrio is facing up to 15 or 18 years. Good!
Parents: make sure you know who your child is communicating with on FaceBook and MySpace. If parents were watching what was going on - for two months - maybe they would have caught this creep before the sexual abuse took place.
