Police Find Teacher Stephanie Gross Making Out in Car with 16-Year-Old Student
Mohegan Lake, New York, teacher Stephanie A. Gross, 24, is charged with having sexual contact with a 16-year-old male student. Gross was a social studies teacher at Lakeland High School.
She has been charged with third-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a minor after an officer saw her and the boy in her parked car behind a restaurant. Police have not identified the boy.
Gross told police said that she and the student went to New York City to see a concert but couldn’t get in because the boy was underage. They walked around the city before heading back and stopped at the restaurant parking lot where police found Gross straddling the boy and kissing him. Both were fully clothed.
Students say she was always very flirty with the male students and had a reputation for wanting to be one of the crowd, especially with the boys.
I found it interesting that parents are beginning to realize that their sons could be a victim of sexual abuse just as much as their daughters:
“Sixteen-year-olds can look like men, but they are still only 16,” said parent Lali George.
“Lots of times people have a false sense of security because they have sons, thinking they’re going to be safe, but you have to be just as careful,” said parent Cathy Volpe. “There is no double-standard anymore. The same way you’re appalled if it’s your daughter, you’re appalled if it’s your son.”

This makes me think of the movie “Notes on a Scandal.” It shows that even though the sexual encounter may be “consensual,” there is a da*n good reason there is an “age of consent” legally established in most countries. A child’s mind cannot grasp the full effects of their decision to engage in that level of sexual activity.
Sheesh, is 18 years really that long, people?

Just because he was “into the deed” at the time doesn’t mean that when he hits 25, 30, 45, whatever, he won’t look back with regret. You don’t see anything wrong with a teacher having sex with a 16 year old student just because the student encouraged it? Even if he was coming on to her, it’s a matter of taking advantage of your position, and it’s still VERY inappropriate.
“A child’s mind cannot grasp the full effects of their decision to engage in that level of sexual activity.” The 16 year old thought it was fun to sneak around - it was taboo. Once it got serious, he turned tail. Don’t you think that’s an indicator that he wasn’t truly ready for a sexual relationship, especially of that magnitude?
This was just a movie. There are real-life examples that don’t turn out so harmless.

This boy was completely into his sexuality and knew excatly what he was doing. 16 year-old boys are not boys. They are young men. As far as a person in postion of trust, ooookkkaaayyyy…well that can be classified under small children as far as I’m concerned. The true “sex assualt” crimes should be saved for the children of this nation. What I mean by children 0-13.
How come it is that when true children are victims of sexual assualt it is never heard on the 10 o’clock news? Have you maybe considered that the general population doesnt want to accept that this goes on? Instead focusing on silly “scandals”. A 16 year old knows excatly what they are doing when it comes to sex. I dont know about you but I had all the sex ed in the world before 14. 90% of high school population looses their virginity by 16. The 10% lie and say they have. Not to mention the sex drive of young men. Now the “magnitude” of sex between a young man and woman…what 16 year old do you know that has a meaningful realtionship with the person they are screwing? Or better yet, care about that person (still with them )10 years later? Reality is a 16 year old is not a child Heather. “once it got serious he turned tail…” yes he did, most men do. Did you maybe expect something different? Marriage proposal? Happy ever after? Give me break. Give me a true sexual assualt on a child then we will have a conversation on what to do with them.

16 may not be a child, but a sexual “relationship” with a 16 year old is far different than a sexual relationship between two consenting, 25 year olds, which is what I keep saying and you keep ignoring.

I agree with Heather completely. Plain and simple - it is against the law for a reason. If we allowed adults to have sex with 16 year olds just because the 16 year old “wanted” it, then where would be draw the line? Would it then be ok for a teacher to have sex with a 12 year old student who had a crush on his or her teacher? Kudos Heather - there are some of us who agree with you and understand your point of view.

WAY TO GO VIOLET!!!!……your the first female on this blog to make any damn sense…..my hats off to your ability to see this from a logical and linear standpoint instead of an emotionaly charged bullshit opinionated one based on intangible feminine sexual vulnerability and ignorance.
Wanna’ know something interesting about Heather and Steph?……..if they were both very physicaly attractive ( wich I highly doubt they are )…..and healthy…..and open minded….and say….tutors of say 13 year old boys that were like 6 foot tall and intelligent and charming….and spent day-after relentless day with them getting all cozy and comfortable and relaxed with them…..guess what…..they would be just as subject to the same temptation as these countless other army of female teachers you read and hear about in the news to get intimite with their sexualy vibrant male students….and yet they come off as “oh my gawd….Oh my gawd….this could never happen to me….and sould never happen to “them” either.

A 16 YR OLD CANNOT BE CALLED A ‘CHILD’. DID THE TEACHER BIND THE BOY’S HANDS BEFORE KISSING HIM?? EVEN A 14 YR OLD CAN UNDERSTAND WHATS HAPPENING TO HIM.WHY DIDNT THE BOY JUST LEAVE THE CAR AND RUN AWAY??

MANY ‘MINORS’ IN INDIA HAVE BEEN ARRESTED FOR KILLING OR SHOOTING THEIR CLASSMATES WITH KNIVES & GUNS BUT THEY ARE RELEASED BECOZ THEY ARE ‘MINORS’. I THINK THE TEACHER IN THIS CASE SHOULD BE RELEASED.
