Matthew Gould Gets 20 Years for Sexually Abusing 19 Boys

by Anne-Marie Nichols

Matt_Gould.jpgIn Salem, Oregon, teacher Matthew Gould, 45, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for 14 counts of first-degree sex abuse.

Over the years he molested 19 boys at Pratum Elementary School in Silverton. These are some of the more perverted things Gould did to get close to the boys:

  • Gould staged games of naked dodge ball
  • He showed boys how to masturbate
  • He held naked hot tub parties for kids
  • Besides the 19 boys, police found out about 17 more victims. No charges were filed because they took place in another county or the statute of limitations had run out.

Police estimate there could be many more victims. I’m guessing we don’t know the half of it.

I am just saddend and sickend by how Matt’s life took this road. I knew him in our Christian high school and really enjoyed this quiet yet smart and funny guy. He was a nice friend to have in high school. My heart aches for his family. The Lord has impressed on me to pray for his family from time to time. I pray for this “monster” in Matt to be destroyed and I pray that he feels great remorse for the pain he has brought to his family and his victims and families of his victims. I pray that this remorse is not that he got caught but that he could do such horrific things. God is bigger than all of us and He is perfect in His justice—He is also loving and forgiving even when we can’t forgive or understand forgiveness. I pray Matt turns his sickened, diseased heart back to the God that saved him many years ago; he will find forgiveness and restoration. Believe me, this is NOT the Matt that I knew many years ago. Yes, people change, but I just know that something from Matt’s past stirred this evil up in him because this wasn’t who he once was.

To his family, I pray that in time you will all heal. Know that you are being prayed for and please know that God is still very, very good and He is in control and all powerful and He loves you and will heal your pain and bring “beauty from ashes.”

And what about all the innocent Matthew Gould’s out there trying to live a normal life? This destroys them!
