Daycare Operator Douglas Jay Clark Sexually Abused Infants and Other Children
An Adrian, Michigan daycare operator, Douglas Jay Clark, 52, was charged with 44 counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving abuse of young children. He’s being held on a $5 million bond.
The charges are based on videotapes seized from Guardian Family Daycare at Clark’s home that contain images of child sexual abuse that the police chief said is the worse he’s seen. The video tapes do not show that anyone else was involved in the abuse.
Clark is accused of multiple acts of sexual abuse of three infants, two boys and a girl. There are other victims of sexual abuse as well, ranging from infants to preteens. People have been calling police to report molestations since the case first hit the papers.
This isn’t the first time Clark was suspected of sexual abuse of children. An investigation was done in 2003, but did not produce any charges since the family didn’t pursue the complaint and there was a lack of evidence. The cases are now reopened.
The abuse had obviously been going on a long time. While it’s awful that officials didn’t find enough to charge Clark, it’s also troubling that parents didn’t want to believe that something was going wrong at the daycare center. Please parents - if your child comes to you and tells you something funny is happening, take them seriously, and report the abuse immediately to police.
