Coach and Youth Volunteer James C. Hart Charges with Creation of Child Porn Video, Uses MySpace to Coerce Victims
Hart used a MySpace account to persuade underage girls to take nude pictures of themselves and send them to him. Using the screen name “J-C,” his profile said he was 18-years-old and had over 1,000 MySpace friends.
A mom who found sexually explicit images of her 16-year-old daughter on the family PC started the investigation. (Way to go mom!) She found out that Hart was coercing her daughter to send him more and more pictures via his MySpace account.
Police investigating the case say that it is common for predators to coerce children into sending nude photographs. Kids feel they can’t tell their parents that they’re being harassed because they think they’ll get into trouble and have their computer and Internet access taken away. So they go ahead and send the predator more photos.
Or kids will take pictures of themselves or their friends and send them to strangers thinking that it is harmless.
After the initial MySpace investigation, authorities searched Hart’s home computer and found videos and pictures of girls that he had coached. Police said that Hart would have the girls over to his place for coaching, and have them change in a basement dressing room before their sessions. The girls were undressing in front of a hidden camera and didn’t know they were being taped.
One of the victims is Brooke Nellor, who felt she was safe going to his home because Hart was a friend of her father’s.
Just another case where parents have to be hypervigilant where their kids are going - both around town and online.
