Sounds like the New York City school bus system - which transports 142,000 public and private school students daily - is in huge trouble.
Here are just a few examples:
At least 78 drivers and monitors were arrested in 2006 for off-duty crimes like including rape, endangering the welfare of a child, and drunken driving.
A bus monitor beat elementary school-children with his fist on numerous occasions.
A driver taped seven-year-old girl to her seat.
A student was tied up with seat belts by a driver.
One bus monitor punched and cursed at a student, then threatened to kill him.
A driver dropped off elementary school-children in dangerous neighborhoods miles from their homes
Another driver parked and left his school bus for hours with children still inside including a 3-year-old preschooler.
