Facing Prison, Teacher Jeffrey Anderson Commits Suicide

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

Jeffrey_Anderson.jpgUPDATE: Back in May I posted, Teacher Jeffrey Anderson Sexually Assaults Two Ninth Graders, Brags on Facebook.

A recent comment from reader “Jeffrey” gave me a link to this story. Here’s a summary:

Teacher Jeffrey Anderson was scheduled to be sentenced in county court for involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault, and related charges. He had pleaded to engaging in sex acts with two girls, ages 14 and 15, who were students at Tohickon Middle School where he taught.

Instead of going to prison for 10 to 20 years, Anderson committed committed suicide by using a small outdoor grill in an enclosed room to asphyxiate himself. His parents found his body. Anderson left a three-page suicide note in which he expressed remorse for his crimes. He acknowledged that his loved ones’ gave him unconditional love even after he admitted to his crime. He also wrote that he couldn’t live with what he had done and signed the note with “much regret.”

Update on Principal John Acerra: Pleads Guilty to Multiple Drug Charges

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

john_acerra_arrested.jpgUpdate: Back in February, the former principal of Nitschmann Middle School in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, John Acerra, 50, was arrested by police in his school office. Police found a bag of meth and drug paraphernalia on his desk. But even more shocking was that Acerra was naked, watching gay porn and also had sex toys on his desk.

Acerra pleaded guilty to multiple drug offenses for selling crystal methamphetamine from his school office. There was no indication that Acerra sold the drug to students. In a search of his home, police found 23 glass pipes containing drugs. They also found two pencil torches and numerous bags containing meth.

Police also a computer belonging to the Bethlehem School District. Great. This guy not only sold drugs but stole from school, too.

Principal Michael Hailey Steals Students’ Field Trip and Picture Money

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

robber_notcaught_sm.gifHere’s a scam. You’re a principal and the school budget gives you money for student pictures. Needing a little extra pocket change, you ask parents to send in money for pictures and then steal the cash.

Luckily, this scammer got caught.

Seems that the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office is investigating Wilson Elementary School principal Michael Hailey. Not only is he accused of stealing picture money, but he was indicted on stealing $14,298 from students for field trips that were already paid for by the district.

His assistant, Patricia Johnson, is also charged in the crime as are Juanita Worthy, a principal at Wiggins Elementary School, and her daughter Keah Worthy, a former teacher at Wilson. Hailey and Johnson are also accused of trying to take $25,000 worth of pay vouchers for meetings that were never held.

Wow a principals-teachers crime ring operating in two different schools. What next, a PTO pot dealing ring?

Did Teacher Bruce H. Smith Jr. Go Too Far? School District Sued by Parents Over Sexually Explicit Classroom Material

Thursday, May 17th, 2007

bruce_smith.jpgIn Brodheadsville, Pennsylvania, parents identifying themselves as “Jane and John Doe” are suing the Pleasant Valley School District, its board, Superintendent Frank Pullo, and Pleasant Valley High School principal John Gress in federal court for allowing high school history teacher Bruce H. Smith Jr. to show and talk about “sexually explicit and offensive material” to his 16 and 17-year-old students and corrupting minor children.

According to the lawsuit, Smith showed his students photos of nude, dismembered, female murder victims in class and had sexually explicit conversations with students. The lawsuit maintains that Smith provided his “sexually explicit” book, “Memoirs of a Class President,” about his teenage romantic life to students. (Students say they were told about the book, but never given it to read. Students who have read the book call it an honest coming-of-age account like “Catcher in the Rye” or “Go Ask Alice.”)
