Teacher Elizabeth Logan Charged with Theft and Computer Crime for Stealing Student’s Coat, Selling it on eBay

Friday, November 9th, 2007

elizabeth_logan.jpgWhile this is a crazy story, I would prefer more of these tales rather than stories about teachers sexually molesting kids or bringing guns to school.

In Hillsboro, Oregon, Elizabeth Lucinda Logan, 42, a former teacher at Jackson Elementary school, was charged with first-degree theft by selling, second-degree theft and computer crime after she was accused of stealing a student’s coat and trying to sell it on eBay.

(Geez, they must not pay teachers much in Oregon if they are stealing items and putting them up on online auctions.)

Swim Coach Donald John King Charged with Inappropriately Touching Female Swimmers

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

don_king.jpgIn Lake Oswego, Oregon, swim coach Donald John King, 66, was arraigned on charges of sexual abuse for inappropriately touching teenage female swimmers while at a swim meet at South Albany High School’s pool.

The investigation began after people at a swim meet in Albany alerted an off-duty detective. The detective later videotaped the incidents of inappropriate touching by King.

He has been charged with first-degree sex abuse, third-degree sex abuse, and first-degree attempted sexual abuse. In an interesting wrinkle in the case King has been arrested for sexual abuse in both Lake Oswego and Albany, Oregon. However, the district attorney has decided that King should face two misdemeanor counts with allegations stemming from a single victim.

Oregon Lawmakers Want Background Checks on School Volunteers and Anyone Having Contact with Students

Friday, June 8th, 2007

GoodCoach.gifSenate Bill 724, written by a bi-partisan trio of legislators pushing for better background checks in their state’s schools is making its way through the Oregon House of Representatives.

Jerry Krummel (R-Wilsonville), a licensed teacher, Representative Jeff Barker (D-Aloha) and Representative Linda Flores (R-Clackamas) are calling for mandatory state and federal background checks for any employees, contractors or volunteers a school district feels may have direct, unsupervised contact with students.

This rigorous screening is already required for licensed teachers in Oregon. The average cost to the district or the applicant is $50-$70. It’s money well spent if it stops one kid from being molested.

Do you know what kind of screening your school district does? Call their office and ask!

Matthew Gould Gets 20 Years for Sexually Abusing 19 Boys

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

Matt_Gould.jpgIn Salem, Oregon, teacher Matthew Gould, 45, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for 14 counts of first-degree sex abuse.

Over the years he molested 19 boys at Pratum Elementary School in Silverton. These are some of the more perverted things Gould did to get close to the boys:

  • Gould staged games of naked dodge ball
  • He showed boys how to masturbate
  • He held naked hot tub parties for kids
  • Besides the 19 boys, police found out about 17 more victims. No charges were filed because they took place in another county or the statute of limitations had run out.

Police estimate there could be many more victims. I’m guessing we don’t know the half of it.

    About Teacher Smackdown

Thank goodness for teachers. Most are passionate, hard working, and decent. For many of us, it’s a teacher who got us where we are today. But that’s not what this blog is about. Instead, Teacher Smackdown identifies the molesters, thieves, and lecherous adults masquerading as teachers in our society. It also gives parents resources and information on protecting our kids and identifying these monsters. Teacher Smackdown – putting the spotlight on bad teachers betraying the public trust one kid at a time. These are their stories.
