  • Caretaker Crystal Marie Bashford Arrested for Having Sex with 14-Year-Old Student

    Friday, October 5th, 2007

Crystal_Marie_Bashford.jpgIn Port Charlotte, Florida, Crystal Maria Bashford, 21, was arrested for having sex with a 14-year-old boy. Bashford has been charged with one count of lewd or lascivious battery.

Bashford is a “caretaker” at the Palm Christian Academy, a Chrisitian elementary school. The boy was not a student at the school.

Police say that the boy and Bashford were friends and had sex one time in November 2006 when he was 14 and Bashford was 20. The teen said Bashford invited him to her house to stay the night. He claims they were in her master bedroom, watching television, when she started to talk about having sex.

    Monday, August 27th, 2007

Daniel_Terelle_Johnson.jpgIn Phoenix, Arizona, Daniel Terelle Johnson, 20, was arrested on three counts of sexual conduct with a minor and two counts of child molestation. The victims were two pre-teenaged girls.

Johnson was a friend of the family and had been babysitting - and molesting them - for seven years. Yes, since he was a teenager himself! The girls finally reported the abuse and police were contacted.

Besides babysitting, Johnson also worked at a Phoenix childcare facility for at least the last six months. Police say he passed his background check, and that they couldn’t find evidence that he molested any of the daycare kids.

Police urge anyone with additional information on the actions of Johnson to contact the Phoenix Police Department’s Crimes Against Children Unit at (602) 534-3200 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.

Daycare Worker Vicki Chiles Charged with Murdering Two-Year-Old Joshua Minton

    Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

vicki_chiles.jpgIn Tulsa, Oklahoma home daycare worker, Vicki Chiles, 42, was charged and arraigned on a felony child abuse and murder charges for abusing an eight-year-old boy in her care and killing two-year-old Joshua Minton.

Chiles was under child abuse investigation for hitting the older boy with a fly swatter 10 and 12 times while chasing him around the room. joshua_minton.jpgThe Oklahoma Department of Human Services was on their way to shut down the home daycare facility when workers found Joshua with his mouth taped shut. Blood and vomit were found on the floor near the boy.

Chiles told police she bound his hands and taped over his mouth with masking tape because he wouldn’t be quiet during nap time. Joshua lost consciousness and later died at the hospital.

Oklahoma’s Department of Human Services is getting a lot of grief - deservedly so - that if they had followed up on the fly swatting complaint quicker, Joshua wouldn’t be dead. A day late, and one beautiful little boy lost to us all.

Update on Copper Mountain Day Care Pics and Sentencing of Teacher Carrie McCandless

    Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

Police declined to file charges against two Copper Mountain ski area daycare workers after they determined that child abuse involving sexually explicit photographs were unfounded. The photographs weren’t sexually suggestive or taken for sexual gratification.

The workers at the Pumpkin Patch Day Care Center took photos of a naked infant’s bottom, another baby flipping the bird, and a baby pretending to smoke a cigarette.

Bottom line - acting stupid does not amount to criminal behavior.
