Band Director Lewis Wilhelm Arrested for Lewd and Lascivious Acts with Child
In Modesto, California, Lewis Wilhelm, 41 was arrested an inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old female student. Wilhelm, who is the band director at Modesto High School, is facing one count of lewd and lascivious acts with a child stemming from his involvement with the girl.
Wilhelm was booked into the county jail but later released on $25,000 bail.
The victim told a friend about her relationship with Wilhelm. Luckily, the friend reported the relationship to school officials who contacted Modesto police. (Kudos to the friend and to school officials who acted quickly and did the right thing!)
The police believe the relationship began early last summer and continued into the school year. It’s believed that the girl went to Wilhelm’s home at least once, where Wilhelm engaged in inappropriate touching with her. Police also believe that the two only had an inappropriate romantic relationship and that no sexual intercourse occured.
Detectives seized Wilhelm’s home computer and a cell phone. They believe e-mails or text messages may have been exchanged between Wilhelm and the girl. They do not believe that there are any victims. Even so, Modesto police ask anyone with information about this crime to call CrimeStoppers at 521-4636. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
There actually are other victims, the school who is scrambling to find a replacement band director two weeks before competitions start, and Wilhelm’s son who was home at the time of his dad’s arrest. He’s been released into the care of his grandmother, but I’m sure he’s suffering from acute embarassment knowing that his dad was messing around with a girl his age.
