Athletic Director and Coach Michael J. Garvie Arrested for Enticing a Minor
In Connecticut, coach Michael J. Garvie III, 30, was charged with enticing a minor and risk of injury to a minor. He has resigned his position as the athletic director and varsity baseball coach at St. Bernard School, a private Catholic school. He also coached their girls’ basketball team.
He was arrested after having sexually explicit online conversations with a person he thought was a 15-year-old girl. Instead he was chatting with an adult female detective who was working undercover and targeting online sexual predators. Ooops.
Garvie contacted the “girl” in an online chat room and had sexually explicit conversations with her. He also sent her sexually explicit images. Ewwwwwwww.
Garvie told police he and his wife had recently returned from their honeymoon (busy guy!) and never intended to meet with the girl. Sure - just ask the guys on NBC’s To Catch a Predator.
I’m still surprised that with the publicity these stings have getting that men are still soliciting kids online. According to the Bloomfield Police captain these stings are “unbelievably successful.”
